II High Priestess

Circus Tarot

I am constantly looking, seeing, taking in the colors, shapes, patterns around me. Sometimes it feels like I can’t absorb enough. It’s like being thirsty for vision, this wanting to hold onto one moment of sight while also moving on to the next. In my studio, outer landscapes merge with inner landscapes forming seeds of stories. Illustrations from the lives of imagined characters begin to emerge in paintings. Visual stories unspool as I work on them. Some are short stories, some are poems, some are fragments of my own immersive visual experiences. The placement of color and pattern, a character in a piece I am working on, all have a feeling of “rightness” that clicks into place when they fit, a held breath released. Each piece is solving an equation: idea + meaning + composition = connection.
